It is a haven for kudus, lions (without mane), cheetahs, leopards and rare species such as Grevy’s zebra, the Somali ostrich, the gerenuk gazelle or the elegant reticulated giraffe and the Oryx Beisa, which looks like a unicorn. The Ewaso Nyiro River crosses the dry bush capped with Rocky Mountains. This oasis shelters elephants that come to bath. Its sandy banks are flanked by rows of acacias, doum palms and tamarind trees.
